Every spring the miracle of tulips creates a sense of deep awe in me. I planted a patch of them right behind our kitchen widow several years ago during a chilly Autumn day. I put them in the earth, covered them up, and left them to rest The winter was cold and snowy; and most of the green went away. Spring came. Those little bulbs that had been covered and forgotten began to wake up with rains. A little bit of earth, a little bit of time, and a little bit of refreshing rain, and the joyful colors sprang out of the ground. They are dependable beauties that refresh my soul every spring.
