The Question of Beauty
Could God still be God apart from beauty?
Could the Kingdom of God still be God's Kingdom without beauty?
Is beauty a frivolous extravagance for the wealthy of the world?
Or, is beauty, and the desire for it, part of what makes us human?
These were questions I was wrestling with in the years following our family's move to rural West Africa. Surrounded by poverty, I was faced with an inner battle between the creative, beauty-loving part of me that longed to turn our home into a beautiful haven for my family, and the part of me that felt guilty using my time and resources on something that seemed so frivolous compared to the genuine needs of the people around me.

Could these two seemingly opposing realities coexist?
And was there a Biblical precedent to guide my thoughts?
In the coming weeks, I am going to unpack these questions with Scripture, also sharing my own thoughts over the past years.
"Why is this so important? "
Good question. Why bother with the topic of beauty?
Because the answer to this dilemma absolutley is something Satan does NOT want you to undestand. As long as he can keep us in the dark about the subject of beauty, he can use it to his advantage to further his own kingdom.
Yes, the spreading of the Kingdom of God is partially dependent on our understanding and intentional use of beauty!
That's a BIG, BOLD statement. Yup. It is!
But, if I'm correct, your freedom to live fully as a child of God in this world, spreading His Kingdom, enjoying and spreading His glory are on the line.
So, are you with me?
I would love to hear from you!
What are your thoughts on this topic of beauty?
Is it worth our time and resources?
Does it align with everything Scripture explains about living a holy life in Christ?
Let me know your thoughts :)
Blessings,
Melissa
